Terms of Service

These terms describe what you can expect from Pulse Of Your City, what I expect from visitors, and the limits of what either of us can promise the other. They apply whenever you use the site. If you don't agree with them, the simplest remedy is to stop using the site.

What the site is

Pulse Of Your City is a free, ad-supported, city-aware local discovery site. It combines hand-written editorial guides with a live data layer that pulls from public APIs (news, sports, weather, geo-IP) and links out to first-party sources. It is not a news wire, a real-time data feed, a financial-advice service, or a real-estate platform. It is best treated as a starting point for local decisions, not the final word on any of them.

Information accuracy

I work hard to keep the editorial copy accurate and up to date, and the live data layer pulls from reputable public sources. Even so, prices, hours, scores, schedules, listings and links change constantly — sometimes hourly — and there will always be a gap between what the site says and what is true at the exact moment you read it. Verify critical details (a reservation time, a flight, a fuel price you're driving across town for) on the linked first-party source before you commit. Any guarantee beyond "I'm trying hard" would be dishonest, and dishonest guarantees are not the business this site is in.

External links

The site links extensively to third-party websites — restaurants, retailers, sports leagues, news publishers, government data portals, social platforms. A link is not an endorsement. I link to sources that are useful to verify a fact or open a booking; I do not vet third-party privacy practices, business practices, or political stances. Your relationship with any linked third party is between you and them.

User conduct

The site does not have user accounts or public posting features, so user conduct rules are minimal. The one relevant ask: please don't attempt to scrape the site at high request rates, exploit the live-data APIs through the site's pages, or abuse the contact email with spam. If you'd like to use the editorial content elsewhere, write and ask — short, properly attributed excerpts are usually fine.

Intellectual property

The editorial copy on this site is original work by Kirk Johnson and is protected by Canadian and international copyright. Headlines, scores, weather data, ticket information and similar facts are not owned by the site — those belong to the publishers, leagues, retailers and venues they came from, and the site links to them rather than republishing them in bulk. If you'd like to syndicate or quote the editorial copy, write and we'll work out an appropriate licence.

Disclaimers

The site is provided "as is." I make no warranty, express or implied, that the site will be available without interruption, that the data shown will be free of error, or that the site will meet any particular need you have. To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, I am not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss arising from your use of the site.

Changes to these terms

I may revise these terms when the underlying services or my editorial practices change. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "last reviewed" date below and, where the change is substantial, a short note in this section describing the update.

Governing law

The site is operated from Canada and these terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Manitoba and the federal laws of Canada that apply in it. If a dispute arises, you and I will first try to resolve it in writing through the contact email before escalating to any formal process.
